How to make Dal Fry ?

Dal Fry is a popular North Indian food served as a main dish with Rice. It is made using different Dal( pea splits).Here, I made uaing pegion splits(Toovar dal). Learn, step by step Dal Fry Recipe at home.

Ingredients for Dal Fry Recipe

# Ingredients
1. 1 cup pigeon split (Toovar dal),
2. 3 tbsp ghee
3. ½ tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
4. 1 medium onion, Chopped
5. 1 tbsp garlic, chopped
6. 2 green chilli
7. 1 medium tomato, Chopped
8. 1/4 tbsp Turmeric powder
9. 1/4 tbsp red chili powder
10. 1/4 tbsp coriander cumin powder
11. 1/4 tbsp asafoetida
12. 2 whole dry red chilies
13. Salt as per taste
14. 2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped

Steps of Dal Fry Recipe

# Steps
1. Wash the pigeon split (toovar dal) and place them in a pressure cooker with two cup water and pinch of salt. Pressures cook it for three to four whistles until they are completely cooked and soft.
2. Heat the 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and add garlic and sauté for a half minute.
3. Add onion and cook till onion becomes soft and translucent.
4. Add turmeric powder, coriander-jeera powder, red chili powder, salt and sauté for a minute.
5. Add tomato and green chili and mix it. Sauté for two to three minutes.
6. Add boiled pigeon splits with the liquour and mix. Add 1 cup water and cook it for Eight minutes.
7. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. When seeds crackle add asafoetida and dry whole red chili and switch off the flame. Add seasoning in the Cooked Dal.
8. Transfer the dal in to a serving bowl, Garnish with coriander.
9. Serve hot with Rice or Pulao.
