1. | ¾ cup split pigeon pea (Toovar Dal) |
2. | 1 green chili, chopped |
3. | 1/4 tbsp ginger, chopped |
4. | 1 medium tomato, chopped |
5. | 1/4 tbsp turmeric powder |
6. | 1/2 tbsp red chili powder |
7. | 1/2 tbsp dhanajira powder (cumin-coriander powder) |
8. | 1/2 tbsp Mustard seeds |
9. | 1/2 tbsp Cumin seeds |
10. | 6-8 Curry leaves |
11. | 1/4 tbsp Asafoetida |
12. | 2 tbsp Jaggery, chopped |
13. | 2 tbsp Peanuts |
14. | 1 tbsp Oil |
15. | 1 Whole dry red chili |
16. | 1/2 tbsp lemon juice |
17. | 1/4 tbsp roasted fenugreek seeds powder |
18. | Fresh green Coriander leaves, chopped |
Steps of Gujarati Dal Recipe
# | Steps |

1. | Wash the dal and pressure cook it with 3 cup water up to 3 whistles or till completely cooked. |
2. | Add 1 cup water and tomato and blend using hand blender to smooth liquid. |
3. | Transfer into a deep pan and place it on flame. Add turmeric powder, green chili, ginger, dhana- jeera powder, red chili powder, salt, jaggery, peanut and mix well. Cook on medium flame for 8 minutes. |
4. | For Seasoning, heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin seed. When seeds crackle add asafoetida, curry leaves, whole dried red chili and add it to dal. |
5. | Cook on low flame for 5 min while stirring occasionally. |
6. | Add lemon juice, roasted fenugreek seed powder and coriander leaves and mix well. Switch off the flame and serve. |
