Steps |
1. |
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. |
2. |
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter together until the butter has melted. Let the mixture cool to room temperature. |
3. |
Add the milk mixture and eggs to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. |
4. |
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. |
5. |
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size. |
6. |
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Melt the chocolate chips and butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt and mix until smooth. Set aside to cool. |
7. |
In a separate bowl, prepare the topping by mixing together the flour, sugar, butter, and cocoa powder until crumbly. |
8. |
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. |
9. |
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12x16 inch rectangle. |
10. |
Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the dough, leaving about 1/2 inch border around the edges. |
11. |
Roll the dough tightly, starting from the long edge, and pinch the ends to seal. |
12. |
Cut the dough lengthwise down the middle to create two long pieces. Twist the pieces together and place in the greased loaf pan. |
13. |
Sprinkle the topping over the babka, pressing it gently into the dough. |
14. |
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the babka comes out clean. |
15. |
Allow the babka to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing and placing on a wire rack to cool completely. |
